10/1 Dinner Event

Monday, October 1, 2007

Joe Barriero, PMP
Speaking on the Topic:
Performing a Project Risk Assessment

Presentation

Project risk management is a key component of project management. The Project Management Institutes’ PMBOK defines risk management as “…the systematic process of identifying, analyzing, and responding to project risk…” Project risk management is fundamentally a decision-making process that requires a methodical approach to perform risk assessments to enable the Project Manager to answer the question:
 “How risky is my project?”
Even the most comprehensively planned and managed project will get into some difficulty since it is a mixture of technology, plans, processes, and people in an ever changing environment. This coupled with the requirement for more complex solutions being demanded by business necessitate the need to embed risk management within all functions of the project. It is essential that Project Managers understand the risk factors that will affect the project of being completed on time, within budget, and produce a quality deliverable that successfully satisfies the customer.

This session discussed:

  • Why focus on risk.

  • Who is responsible for managing project risk.

  • Overview of the risk management process.

  • Performing a project risk assessment.

  • Budgeting for risk.
