Our Inaugural Meeting was held on Monday, December 9, 2002!

Top Hits of the WIIFM Radio Station

It was a great night!  Sixty people, representing a variety of Tallahassee public and private sector organizations, made it through the damp weather to be there for our first meeting.

After a time of gathering, renewing old friendships and making new ones, we were treated to a fine dinner by the talented folks at the University Center Club.

Following dinner, our Founder and President, Beth Anne Posey, called the program to order.  She provided an overview of the process that led up to holding this first meeting, shared some of her vision for the Chapter, and introduced the Chapter's officers.

Next, we were pleased to hear from Ken Perry, who is the President of the Northeast Florida Chapter of PMI (based in Jacksonville).  Ken made the trip over for our inaugural meeting, along with his colleague in the Northeast Florida Chapter, Melissa Hong.  Ken shared his perspective on the value of a PMI chapter to the local project management community.  He provided his congratulations on our success in getting our new Chapter off the ground.  In closing, Ken also challenged us to consider how our Chapter might best serve us ― what types of training activities and other events will best support our goals, personally and professionally?

(We also want to acknowledge the support of the South Florida Chapter of PMI, who has provided financial assistance for our initial activities.)

The main event was the terrific presentation from Ruth Elswick, PMP.  Ruth's high-energy, engaging style was a hit!  In Top Hits of the WIIFM Radio Station, she gave us a solid overview ― peppered with practical examples ― of how to work with all project stakeholders throughout the life of a project.

The presentation slides (in Microsoft PowerPoint format) are available here.  (To download from most web browsers, right-click and "Save Target As...".)

As we wrapped up this meeting, Beth Anne announced that we were planning our next meeting for early February, with details to be announced by early January.

For holders of the PMP who were in attendance, continuing education credit is available for this meeting.  Contact us for more information.
